Sound Scar

OVS Magazine, 2016

Scrape. Slam. Sit
Still. Count them
Through the door:

Four. Twelve. Twenty-
Two. Just like me/
Not like me. Buzzing

In my head. Mom
Says they’re sound
Scars. Quiet, it’s

Not quiet. Teacher
Says draw straight
Lines under

Letters. Only I can
Hear the paper
Howl.
